Ghana President H. E. Nana Akufo-Addo energized the national football team, the Black Stars, during a special send-off party in Kumasi ahead of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations journey to Ivory Coast.
The players enjoyed a lively performance by Afro dancehall sensation Stonebwoy.
At the farewell dinner, attended by all 27 players, including star Mohammed Kudus, President Akufo-Addo passionately urged the team to give their utmost in Ivory Coast and break the nation’s 42-year trophy drought.
The Black Stars fine-tuned their preparations with a pre-AFCON friendly against Namibia on Monday which ended in a scoreless stalemate.
Departing for Abidjan on Wednesday, they gear up for their Group B opener against Cape Verde on Sunday at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny.
In a challenging group, Ghana will also face formidable opponents Egypt and Mozambique.
Having clinched the AFCON title in 1982, the Black Stars, four-time African champions, aim to seize the opportunity and bring home their fifth trophy, coming tantalizingly close in recent decades.
The nation awaits with anticipation as the team embarks on their quest to make history at the prestigious tournament.
