Medeama Sporting Club have pulled five points clear at the top of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League following a commanding weekend that saw their closest challengers falter.
Playing at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday, the Yellow and Mauves produced one of their most polished displays of the campaign, sweeping aside Young Apostles 3-0 to extend their impressive run.
The result underlined the authority with which the reigning champions have approached the season, confirming their status as the team to beat as the league edges towards the halfway mark.
The Tarkwa-based side have been among the most consistent performers since the campaign began, and their latest victory came at a time when rivals were unable to keep pace.
Both Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko dropped valuable points over the weekend, opening the door for Medeama to create daylight at the summit.
They now lead the standings on 37 points, a cushion that offers breathing space in what has been a tightly packed table for much of the season.
Behind them, the chasing pack remains crowded. Aduana FC sit second with 32 points, level with Gold Stars in third, while two of the country’s most storied clubs, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, occupy fourth and fifth positions respectively on 31 points apiece.
The margins between these sides are slender, ensuring that the battle for continental places remains finely poised despite Medeama’s growing advantage.
Further down the standings, Heart of Lions, Dreams FC and Swedru All Blacks are clustered in mid-table, each attempting to find the consistency required to mount a late push up the table.
Their positions reflect the competitive nature of the division this season, where a short winning run can quickly transform prospects.
At the foot of the league, however, the picture is more troubling.
Eleven Wonders remain rooted to the bottom despite recording a 2-0 victory over Holy Stars, a result that offered encouragement but did little to lift them from danger.
They are joined in the relegation places by Berekum Chelsea and Hohoe United, both of whom continue to struggle for form and points as the campaign unfolds.
The weekend’s outcomes have therefore reshaped the title narrative.
Medeama’s ruthless display against Young Apostles was not only about the three points but also about seizing the moment when competitors stumbled.
Their five-point lead is the largest margin any team has enjoyed at the top this season, and it sends a clear message to the rest of the field.
With more than half of the campaign still to play, nothing is settled, but momentum is firmly with the champions.
For the teams immediately behind them, the challenge now is to respond quickly, aware that further slips could allow Medeama to disappear from view.
