The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a revised date for the resumption of local leagues, affecting both the Premier League and other domestic competitions. Originally scheduled to restart on December 21, the GFA, following a meeting between its Executive Committee and the clubs, decided to postpone the resumption by one week. The first division championship is now set to begin over the weekend of December 27-29.
Alongside the Premier League, the second division and women’s championships will also commence during the same period, ensuring a coordinated restart across all levels of Ghanaian football. The decision reflects the GFA’s efforts to streamline the league calendar and provide sufficient preparation time for the clubs following the initial schedule adjustment.
In addition to the new league dates, the GFA announced the appointment of Lepowura MND Jawula as head of the League Management Committee for a one-year term. This appointment is intended to provide leadership and oversight for the administration of the domestic leagues, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to organizational standards.
The postponement by a week and the simultaneous launch of multiple competitions are aimed at allowing clubs, players, and officials adequate time to prepare for the new season. With the Premier League, second division, and women’s championships restarting together, the GFA seeks to maintain competitive balance and ensure that all teams begin under optimal conditions.
Jawula’s appointment as head of the League Management Committee underscores the GFA’s commitment to effective governance and professional management of Ghanaian football. His leadership will be crucial in coordinating fixtures, overseeing regulatory compliance, and supporting clubs in the implementation of league operations throughout the season.
Fans, players, and clubs alike will now prepare for the adjusted start date of December 27-29, marking the official resumption of local competitions. With the new leadership in place and the revised calendar announced, the GFA aims to deliver a smooth and well-organized season across all levels of domestic football in Ghana.
