President John Dramani Mahama has urged national football authorities to persuade Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz to stay and take the Black Stars job on a permanent basis.

The First Gentleman of the Land believes the Portuguese coach continuing is the ultimate key to future international silverware.

Speaking on Friday during an inspection tour of the Ho Sports Stadium, Mahama emphasized that maintaining tactical continuity is paramount to building a trophy-winning side.

The President insisted that the veteran Portuguese manager has laid down a solid structural foundation that must not be disrupted ahead of the upcoming qualification cycles.

“I’m sure that if we keep this team, and we persuade the coach Carlos Queiroz to continue to work with the team, by the time of the next AFCON and the next World Cup, we’ll have a team that can claim the championship in either of those two competitions,” Mahama stated.

The President’s direct endorsement comes amid intense ongoing public debate regarding the head coach’s technical future.

The Black Stars entered the 2026 World Cup with limited expectations but progressed to the newly introduced Round of 32 knockout stage under Queiroz’s guidance.

Ghana opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama before securing a goalless draw against England, extending their impressive record in second group matches at the World Cup.

After qualifying for the knockout phase, the Black Stars suffered a narrow defeat to Croatia in their final group game before their campaign ended with elimination against Colombia in the Round of 32.
