Pepe Mel urges Iddrisu Baba to stay amid speculation over Almeria departure

Ghana international Baba Iddrisu has finally returned to competitive action for UD Almeria, 286 days after suffering a serious injury that sidelined him since November 2024.

The 29-year-old made his comeback during Almeria’s Spanish Segunda Division clash against Real Sociedad B at Anoeta, marking the end of a long and difficult recovery spell.

His last appearance came on November 26, 2024, in a league match against Cordoba, where he sustained the injury that kept him out for more than nine months.

Baba’s absence was a major setback for Almeria, but his determination and resilience have now been rewarded with an emotional return.

Spanish outlet La Voz de Almería described the moment as “very emotional,” highlighting the midfielder’s renewed confidence as he sets his sights on re-establishing himself as a key figure for the club.

Head coach Rubi welcomed his return, stressing the need for patience as Baba works his way back to full match fitness.

“He has to be used, one day he will be used,” Rubi said, hinting at a gradual reintegration into the squad.

The midfielder’s comeback is a timely boost for Almeria as they continue their push for promotion back to La Liga. Baba, a former Mallorca player, is equally determined to rediscover his top form and make a significant contribution to the team’s campaign.

The technical team of the Black Stars will be keeping tabs on the midfielder after the September international break.

If he can hit top form, he could be considered for a call-up during the October break for the final round of games in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
