Legendary Ghanaian footballers Abedi Pele and Asamoah Gyan have been named as ambassadors for the 2025 African Schools Championship.
The upcoming tournament is scheduled to kick off in Accra, Ghana, on April 21.
The tournament will bring together some of the continent’s brightest young talents, and the presence of two of Ghana’s most celebrated footballers is expected to add prestige to the event.
Abedi Pele, a three-time African Footballer of the Year, played a pivotal role in Ghana’s 1982 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) triumph and captained the Black Stars to the 1992 final. His illustrious club career includes a UEFA Champions League title with Olympique Marseille in 1993, cementing his status as one of Africa’s greatest football exports.
Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances, is best known for his heroics on the international stage. He played a key role in Ghana’s run to the AFCON finals in 2010 and 2015 and made history as Africa’s leading scorer at the FIFA World Cup, representing Ghana in three consecutive editions.
As ambassadors, Abedi Pele and Gyan will not only promote the tournament but also serve as role models for the young footballers taking part. Their involvement is expected to inspire the next generation and contribute significantly to the growth of grassroots football across the continent.
The final of the tournament which will be staged at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra will be played on April 26.
