Ghana: Karim Zito hopes FA Cup triumph will secure future at Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko’s interim coach, Karim Zito, is placing his hopes of a long-term future at the club on the outcome of the upcoming Ghana FA Cup final, where his side will face second-tier outfit Golden Kick.

Zito, who took over on April 22, 2025, following the departure of Prosper Narteh Ogum, has overseen a promising run of form.

Under his stewardship, the Porcupine Warriors remain unbeaten in six matches.

However, his continued tenure at the club remains uncertain, and he is now banking on silverware to strengthen his case.

With Kotoko considered heavy favourites going into the June 15 final at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, Zito is hoping a victory will serve as a compelling argument to extend his role beyond interim capacity.

“I’ve played at least five games and I’ve been able to step up a gear. We’re going to give it our all. I’m praying to win the FA Cup. Then I’ll be satisfied at the end and I’ll let the technical director know that I did my best,” he said.

The FA Cup final presents more than just a shot at a trophy—it has become a personal crossroads for Zito, who appears determined to prove his managerial worth to the club’s leadership.

Despite his unbeaten record, club insiders suggest that his future hinges largely on the outcome of the cup campaign.

Kotoko’s path to the final has been marked by steady performances and growing confidence within the squad.

Now, with a domestic title within reach, the pressure is on to deliver in a match that has added significance for both the team and its coach.

Zito’s calm presence on the touchline and tactical discipline have not gone unnoticed, yet the club’s hierarchy remains undecided.

Victory in the final, however, could shift the conversation in his favour.

Before the FA Cup showdown, Asante Kotoko will play their final Ghana Premier League fixture of the season against Vision FC this coming Sunday.

While the league campaign has been turbulent, success in the FA Cup would provide a fitting end and a possible new beginning for Zito.

All eyes now turn to Accra on June 15, where the future of one of Ghana’s most storied clubs—and its current caretaker—will hang in the balance.
