Ghana Captain Gyan Confident Ahead of Crucial Guinea Clash
Casablanca, Morocco — Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he is confident the Black Stars can overcome Guinea in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, as the team prepares for a crucial third-round encounter in Morocco.
Currently second in Group E behind Uganda, Ghana will face Syli National on Saturday with their eyes firmly set on securing a spot at the 2015 continental showpiece.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s official website, Gyan praised the team’s preparation and morale ahead of the match.
“We have been training well since the squad responded positively to the coach’s call,” said Gyan. “The key to our mission is to beat Guinea, and all the players are committed to training hard to bring joy to Ghanaians.”
The optimism within the squad appears to have spread to the local Ghanaian community in Casablanca. Dozens of supporters have turned out to watch the national team train, including Ghanaian students and expatriates living in the Moroccan city.
One of them, Eric Oppong, a medical student originally from Koforidua, expressed admiration for the squad’s intensity and discipline in training.
“The players are working very hard, and some of them already look ready to beat Guinea,” said Oppong. “I am happy with their determination and commitment. We’re looking forward to seeing that same energy during the match.”
The Black Stars have been training at the Wydad Athletic Club facilities in Casablanca, with sessions drawing increasing attention in the lead-up to the fixture. On Friday, the team held their final session at the Mohamed V Stadium, the venue for Saturday’s match, scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. local time.
The upcoming encounter is seen as a pivotal moment in Ghana’s qualification campaign. With Uganda leading the group, victory over Guinea would strengthen Ghana’s chances of reaching the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Morocco.
The squad, under the guidance of head coach Maxwell Konadu, appears determined to make a strong statement. Gyan, who has been central to Ghana’s recent international campaigns, is expected to play a leading role both on and off the pitch.
As anticipation builds in Casablanca and back home in Ghana, the Black Stars are looking to prove their readiness and reclaim their place among Africa’s elite footballing nations.
