Ghana legend Andre Ayew reached a significant career milestone on Saturday, making his 500th league appearance in Le Havre’s Ligue 1 clash against Olympique Marseille at Stade Oceane on Saturday.
The former Black Stars captain, who has been a key figure for club and country over the past decade, started the match as his side aimed to pull clear of the relegation zone.
Of Ayew’s 500 professional appearances, 227 have come in the French top flight, reflecting his deep connection with Ligue 1.
He also played 25 times in the French second division, making his mark with clubs like Marseille and now Le Havre, where he returned this season to add experience to the newly promoted side.
Ayew, a former U20 World Cup winner with Ghana, also boasts significant experience in English football, having featured in 102 Premier League games with Swansea City and West Ham United.
His stint in England also included 87 Championship appearances, excluding play-off matches, underlining his versatility and resilience across different levels of competition.
Beyond France and England, the 35-year-old forward also had a brief but impactful spell in Turkey, where he made 29 appearances for Fenerbahce in the Super Lig.
Ayew then took his talents to the Middle East, representing Al Sadd in Qatar’s top flight, where he added 30 more matches to his career tally.
Ayew’s leadership and experience remain invaluable to Le Havre, who currently sit 16th in the Ligue 1 standings with 31 points from 32 matches.
The Normandy-based club will be hoping Ayew’s presence can help them avoid an immediate return to Ligue 2 as the season reaches its critical final stretch.
For Ayew, the 500-match milestone serves as a testament to his longevity and consistency at the top level of the sport.
