Ghana international Inaki Williams has opened up about Nico Williams failed move to Spanish giants, Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window.
The talented winger turned down Barcelona for the second time running to continue his trade at San Mames, penning a contract that will keep him at Athletic Bilbao until summer 2035.
However, the Black Stars attacker, who has recently been named as Bilbao’s skipper ahead of the 2025/26 football campaign insists the Spanish giants ran a media campaign to snatch the winger, which could not succeed.
“A lot of lies have been told. We all know how football works and the pressure they wanted to exert. Barça ran a media campaign that they thought would work. That external noise has done a lot of damage and has tainted the situation.” He said.
Inaki replaces Spanish international Oscar De Marcos as the substantive captain following retirement from football.
The duo are expected to play a huge role for Athletic Bilbao in the upcoming 2025/26 football campaign. The Spanish outfit will be competing in three major competitions next season following their qualification back to Europe after long-term absence.
Athletic Club will open their La Liga season with a home game against Sevilla as Nico and Inaki aim to impress.
