Ghana’s squad will arrive in Africa Cup of Nations host nation Ivory Coast just 72 hours before their Group C opener against Portgual-based opponents Cape Verde, the Ghana FA has confirmed.

The Black Stars will gather in Kumasi on Tuesday to launch preparations on home soil, training for a week aided by a friendly against Namibia on January 8th.

After a final session the following day, Ghana will board a flight bound for Abidjan on January 10th to set up camp and undergo last-minute finetuning.

The four-time African champions will be accommodated in the capital’s Pullman Hotel according to current plans, while using the Municipal Stadium in nearby Bingerville for training requirements.

With Cape Verde awaiting in Group C on January 13th, Chris Hughton’s squad will have limited time to overcome jet lag and fully acclimatize to Ivorian conditions. Their clash also pitched against Morocco and Gabon promises to test Ghana’s title credentials.

However, by basing themselves on familiar ground in Ghana until the last possible moment should allow the Black Stars to find form and fluidity before the high stakes matches get underway.

Veteran captain Andre Ayew will provide vital leadership, surrounded by Europe-based talents like Inaki Williams, Tariq Lamptey and Mohammed Kudus to supplement Ayew’s presence.

But with minimal margin for error in a taxing group phase and just 72 hours to transition, Ghana’s early AFCON fortunes may hinge on combining successfully during their week-long Ghanaian camp.
