Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has emphasized the urgent need for victory in their upcoming clash against Sudan after the Black Stars’ disappointing 1-1 draw with Niger on Monday in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana’s campaign has faltered with just one point from two matches, following a narrow 1-0 loss to Angola in their opening game in Kumasi.

The draw against Niger, where Ghana initially took the lead before being pegged back, has left the team in a precarious position.

Reflecting on the result, Addo expressed his frustration and urgency, stating, “It will be tough again. I have known it from the beginning, it is the little details that will decide the outcome of these games.

It will be a crucial game for us again. We have to win, there is no other solution, and we have to win.”

Addo acknowledged the mounting pressure on the team and reiterated the need for improvement.

“We are under pressure, that is for sure, and we have to do better,” he added.

The upcoming fixtures against Sudan, scheduled for October, are now pivotal for Ghana’s chances of advancing in the qualifiers.

The Black Stars’ recent defeat to Angola marked their first loss in Kumasi in 24 years, adding to the weight of expectations and the urgency to turn their fortunes around.

Ghana’s underwhelming start to the qualifiers has heightened the stakes for their next encounters.

The team’s inability to secure maximum points from their initial games has left them with much to prove, and Addo’s call for decisive action underscores the critical nature of their upcoming matches.
