Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has announced impending changes to the technical team of the Black Stars.
According to media reports, assistant coaches John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann may be relieved of their duties as part of the restructuring efforts ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers set to resume in March this year.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, Asante Twum confirmed the planned adjustments but refrained from disclosing specific names.
“At the last Executive Council meeting, it was a subject that was thoroughly discussed and a number of suggestions came up aside from the head coach [Otto Addo], the input and the contributions of the assistant coaches were discussed since they came on board in March last year.
“All the work of the backroom staff was analyzed and discussed and eventually decided to ring some changes but specifically, I cannot confirm who will leave. Three people were given a task to return to the Executive Council with certain recommendations.
“A decision was made to bring changes to the technical team but in terms of the personalities, I cannot confirm but the decision will be very soon because there is no time for the team because we are playing World Cup qualifiers in March so if you are bringing in new faces, that has to be done on time so they can settle down before the next phase of the qualifiers,” he added.
The Black Stars, led by head coach Otto Addo and assistant coaches John Paintsil, Joseph Laumann, and Fatau Dauda, recently faced a major setback by failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years. During the qualifiers, the team recorded three defeats and three draws in six matches.
Paintsil and Laumann were appointed as assistant coaches in March 2024, succeeding George Boateng and Didi Dramani.
With the next phase of World Cup qualifiers approaching, the GFA is under pressure to implement these changes promptly and reposition the Black Stars for success.
