BREAKING: Ghana FA parts ways with Otto Addo after poor international run
The Ghana Football Association has officially announced the departure of Otto Addo as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, with immediate effect.
The decision comes on the back of a disappointing international window in which Ghana suffered consecutive defeats, including a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria and a 2-1 defeat against Germany.
These results compounded an already worrying run, following earlier losses to South Korea and Japan.
In a brief statement, the GFA expressed appreciation for Addo’s service, stating that the Association “sincerely thanks Otto Addo for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best in his future endeavours.”
However, the governing body did not provide further details regarding the circumstances leading to the decision.
Addo’s exit signals a significant shift in Ghana’s technical direction at a crucial time, with just 72 days remaining until preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars have struggled for consistency in recent months, raising concerns about the team’s readiness to compete at the highest level.
The former Borussia Dortmund talent coach returned to the role with high expectations, having previously guided Ghana to qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
However, his second stint failed to deliver the desired results, with performances drawing increasing scrutiny from fans and pundits alike.
The GFA has indicated that it will soon outline a new technical roadmap for the Black Stars, including the appointment of a new head coach. Attention will now turn to who takes over the reins as Ghana aims to rebuild momentum ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.
More updates are expected in the coming days as the Association moves swiftly to stabilize the team.
