The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has established a five-member committee to identify and recommend a successor to Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars.
The announcement was made in an official statement over the weekend, following a meeting between the GFA leadership and the Ministry in Accra on Friday, 2 October 2026.
The committee will be chaired by Fred Pappoe, a former vice-president of the Ghana Football Association, who brings extensive experience in football administration and governance.
He will be joined by four other members: Anthony Baffoe, secretary general of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) and a former Ghana international; Agbesi Dzakpasu (Esq.), a lawyer and football administrator; Stephen Appiah, the former Black Stars captain; and Faisal Chibsah, a high-performance specialist.
“Under its mandate, the committee is tasked with identifying, assessing and recommending a suitable candidate for the vacant position of Black Stars head coach,” the GFA said.
The role became vacant on Thursday, 1 October 2026, when Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz resigned after the September international window.
The committee is expected to submit its report to the Ghana Football Association after completing its assessment. The GFA did not state a deadline for the report.
The federation said the process would be conducted transparently and on merit, with the aim of appointing a coach capable of leading the Black Stars in their forthcoming competitions.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the ministry wish to assure Ghanaians that a transparent and merit-based process will be put in place to recruit a competent coach who will lead the Black Stars in upcoming competitions,” the statement added.
Applicants for the position have been asked to submit their applications and CVs to coaches.applications@ghanafa.org.
The committee’s work follows the departure of Queiroz and marks the next stage in Ghana’s search for a permanent head coach. Its recommendation will be considered by the GFA after the selection process has been completed.
