Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey was sent off in the FA Cup fifth round clash against Newcastle United on Sunday.
The Black Stars defender received two yellow cards to get the marching orders in the highly competitive clash, held at the St. James’ Park.
Despite being reduced to 10-man, Brighton managed to secure victory over their opponent after extra-time, ensuring their qualification to the quarterfinals of the Cup competition.
Lamptey went into the books of the referee in both halves and had to be sent off in stoppage time.
Before this, Newcastle United had already been reduced to 10-man after Anthony Gordon received a straight red card in the match.
Meanwhile, in an electric start to the game, the hosts opened the scoring through Swedish forward Alexander Isak, who converted from the spot after 22 minutes.
Brighton and Hove Albion responded 22 minutes later through Gambian star Yankubah Minteh.
The game was forced into extra time where English-Ghanaian striker Danny Welbeck netted a fine winner after lobbing the ball past Martin Dubravka.
