Ghanaian international defender Nicholas Opoku has secured a transfer to Turkish Super Lig side Kasimpasa SK, marking a new chapter in his professional football career. The 27-year-old centre-back joins Kasimpasa on a free transfer following his departure from French Ligue 2 outfit Amiens SC, where he spent the last three seasons.

The transfer was officially confirmed on Monday after Opoku successfully completed his medical examination at Liv Hospital Vadi Istanbul.

The signing ceremony took place at the Turgay Ciner Sports Facilities, where Opoku put pen to paper to finalize his move to the Turkish club.

Opoku’s exit from Amiens comes at the end of the 2023-24 season, following the expiration of his contract.

During his time with the French side, Opoku made a significant impact, featuring in 102 matches across all competitions.

Last season, he made 23 appearances in Ligue 2, showcasing his defensive prowess and consistency.

The Ghanaian defender originally joined Amiens on loan from Italian Serie A club Udinese Calcio in July 2020, before making the move permanent a year later.

His time at Amiens saw him develop into a key figure in the team’s backline, earning praise for his strong defensive performances and leadership qualities.

Opoku’s football journey began in his home country with Berekum Chelsea, where he made a name for himself in the Ghana Premier League.

His impressive performances caught the attention of Tunisian side Club Africain, leading to his first move abroad in 2017.

After a successful stint in Tunisia, where he further honed his skills, Opoku was signed by Udinese in July 2018, marking his entry into European football.

On the international stage, Opoku has represented Ghana 18 times since making his debut in July 2017 during a friendly match against the United States.

He has since been a part of the Black Stars’ setup, contributing to the team’s defensive strength with his solid tackling, aerial ability, and composed presence on the field.

Opoku’s move to Kasimpasa presents an exciting opportunity for him to compete at a higher level in one of Europe’s more competitive leagues.

As he embarks on this new chapter in Turkey, the Ghanaian defender will be looking to bring his experience and defensive acumen to help Kasimpasa achieve their goals in the upcoming Super Lig season.

For Kasimpasa, the acquisition of Opoku adds depth and stability to their defense, as they aim to improve their standing in the Turkish top flight.

Fans will be eager to see how Opoku adapts to his new environment and contributes to the team’s success in the season ahead.
