Ghanaian centre-back Jonas Adjetey has shared his joy after helping FC Basel secure their first league title in seven years, marking a memorable double as the club also lifted the domestic cup.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Swiss giants, playing a key role in their successful 2024/25 campaign.
Having previously made just 11 league appearances, Adjetey saw his involvement surge as he featured in 32 Swiss Super League matches this term.
Reflecting on his journey in an exclusive interview with Flashscore, Adjetey said he made the most of his chance when it came.
“For me, nothing really changed, but I just tried to do my best and then try to fit in the first team. But when I started, I was training with the first team and was playing with the second team. Then there was an injury to a teammate. I came in, and then I took my chance, and then right from there, I built on it.”
Basel’s title triumph saw them finish 10 points ahead of closest rivals Servette FC, earning the club their 21st Swiss Super League title.
The championship win, along with the domestic cup, marks Adjetey’s first major silverware as a professional footballer.
“For me, it’s meant so much for me because this is my first trophy. We jubilated after the Lugano game. Almost all the players came to the dressing room. We celebrated with the fans. During that week, we had like two celebrations.”
Adjetey’s performances have not only earned him silverware but have also cemented his place as one of the rising defensive talents to watch in European football.
