Ghanaian right-back Alidu Seidu suffered a serious injury during Stade Rennes’ recent match against Lille OSC.
The club confirmed that the 24-year-old sustained an ACL rupture in his left knee. Seidu’s injury occurred in the first half of the game, which Rennes lost 1-0.
The former Clermont Foot defender left the pitch early in the 18th minute and was replaced by Mikayil Faye, a former Barcelona centre-back.
Following the match, medical examinations conducted on Monday revealed the extent of Seidu’s injury.
Doctors confirmed that he will likely miss the remainder of the season, a significant blow for both the player and the club.
This injury not only sidelines him for club duties but also eliminates his chances of participating in Ghana’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers scheduled for March and June 2025.
Seidu has been an integral part of Stade Rennes this season, making 11 appearances and contributing to the team’s defensive efforts. He was named the Rennes Player of the Month for September.
