Ghana defender Abdul Mumin reveals what he brings to Girona

Ghana defender Abdul Mumin has described himself as a defence-first centre-back who also possesses the technical ability to contribute to Girona’s style of play.

Mumin joined Girona on a free transfer ahead of the 2026/27 season, signing a three-year contract after four seasons in Spanish football with Rayo Vallecano.

The 28-year-old believes his ability to defend strongly while remaining comfortable in possession makes him suited to his new club’s approach.

“I think I’m a very defensive player. Also, I don’t think I’m that bad on the ball. I think I’m a football-playing centre-back, but I enjoy defending a lot.”

Mumin, who stands at 1.88 metres, is known for his physical strength and ability in defensive duels.

He says he has worked on different areas of his defending throughout his career and considers his overall defensive game his biggest strength.

“My main strength on the field, I think, is pretty much all aspects of defending. I would say that because over the years I think I’ve tried improving all my aspects of defending.”

The Ghana international also highlighted his ability to distribute the ball, particularly through long passes, as another part of his game.

“I think on the ball I’m pretty good with long balls too.”

Mumin began his European career with FC Nordsjælland before moving to Vitória Guimarães and later Rayo Vallecano.

His arrival gives Girona another experienced option at centre-back as the club reshapes its defence for the new season.
