Ghana defender Abdul Mumin attracts interest from La Liga clubs

Ghana international Abdul Mumin is attracting strong interest in Spain after becoming a free agent, with La Liga clubs Getafe, Girona and Osasuna all reportedly monitoring the experienced central defender ahead of the new season.

The 28-year-old is currently assessing his options after leaving Rayo Vallecano, where he declined an offer to extend his contract on reduced terms. His availability on a free transfer has made him one of the more attractive defensive options on the market.

Getafe, Girona and Osasuna have all entered the race to sign the Black Stars defender as they seek to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window.

The report also states that interest in Mumin extends beyond Spain, with clubs from France’s Ligue 1, the Premier League and Major League Soccer (MLS) also keeping a close watch on his situation.

Mumin joined Rayo Vallecano in 2022 from Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães and went on to establish himself as an important member of the club’s defence.

His progress, however, was interrupted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him out of action for more than a year.

The Ghanaian centre-back returned towards the end of the 2025/26 campaign and made three appearances in La Liga as he completed his recovery from the long-term setback.

His comeback also earned him a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Although he did not feature during the tournament, his inclusion highlighted his return to full fitness after an extended period on the sidelines.

Despite the injury-disrupted spell, Mumin remains a sought-after player thanks to his experience at the highest level and the fact that he is now available without a transfer fee.

That combination has increased his appeal to clubs looking to strengthen their defensive options while avoiding a significant transfer outlay.
