Ghana U-20 coach Desmond Ofei believes the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations offers more than just silverware, it’s a proving ground for both players and coaches.
As Ghana prepares to kick off its Group C campaign against DR Congo on May 2 in Suez, Ofei is focused on using the tournament as a platform to build and explore.
With a proud record that includes four U-20 AFCON titles and the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup, Ghana’s Black Satellites carry high expectations. But Ofei’s attention is on the present challenge and the opportunity to grow.
“The competition keeps evolving. Teams are more organized, players are better prepared, and the talent is impressive. It’s a fantastic platform for young footballers, and for coaches like myself, it’s a space to innovate and test ideas,” Ofei told CAF.
Grouped with defending champions Senegal, DR Congo, and the Central African Republic, Ghana faces stiff competition. Yet Ofei remains calm and confident that the experience will be a meaningful step in the development of his young squad.
