Ghana captain Jordan Ayew set to leave Black Stars camp after knee injury blow

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew is set to leave the Black Stars camp after a scan revealed a problem with his knee, dealing another blow to Carlos Queiroz ahead of the team’s upcoming fixtures.

Ayew arrived in Accra on Monday to join his international teammates as preparations got underway, but concerns over his fitness emerged after he reported discomfort in his knee.

The experienced forward underwent medical examinations on Tuesday morning, with the scan confirming an issue that is expected to rule him out of Ghana’s upcoming matches.

Following the assessment, Ayew held discussions with head coach Carlos Queiroz and is expected to be excused from camp to focus on his recovery.

His anticipated departure further complicates Ghana’s preparations, with the Black Stars already facing a number of injury and availability concerns ahead of their demanding schedule.

Ghana are scheduled to face Ivory Coast and Gambia before taking on Morocco in a friendly, but Queiroz has already lost several key players from his original squad.

Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo are among those unavailable, while experienced defender Baba Rahman has also withdrawn from the team.

Ayew’s absence will be particularly significant given his leadership role and experience within the squad. The 34-year-old has been a key figure for the Black Stars for more than a decade and remains one of the most experienced players in the national team.

Queiroz will now have to adjust his plans once again as Ghana prepare for the upcoming assignments without their captain.

The Black Stars will hope Ayew’s knee problem is not serious and that the veteran forward can complete his recovery and return to action as soon as possible.
