Ghana international Antoine Semenyo played the full 90 minutes as Manchester City secured a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in Sunday’s EFL Cup Final.

A second-half brace from Nico O’Reilly, deployed in an unfamiliar left-back role, proved decisive as City lifted their first piece of silverware of the season.

Operating mainly from the right flank, Semenyo was a constant outlet and nearly capped his performance with a goal after the break, but his curling left-footed effort drifted narrowly wide of the target.

Speaking after the match, Semenyo expressed optimism about the future. “First trophy of many I hope! God’s got a plan,” he told Sky Sports. “It might not work out, you might not know why, but the answer always reveals itself.”

The triumph marks Semenyo’s first trophy since his January move from AFC Bournemouth.

In doing so, he becomes the first Ghanaian to win the competition since Michael Essien lifted the trophy with Chelsea in 2007.

Semenyo is now set to link up with the Ghana national football team in Vienna ahead of upcoming international friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team later this week.
