Asamoah Gyan in a Race Against Time for AFCON 2015 Qualifiers
Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is battling the clock after sustaining a serious injury while playing for Al Ain. The prolific striker is expected to be out for at least nine weeks, a timeline that threatens his participation in the final two matches of Ghana’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
🇬🇭 Determined to return, Gyan has reportedly turned to horse placenta therapy—an unconventional but increasingly popular treatment among athletes—to accelerate healing. Encouragingly, he’s already resumed light running.
🗣️ Despite Gyan’s determination, coach Maxwell Konadu is taking no chances:
“We’re not going to risk our captain unnecessarily. His long-term fitness is the priority.”
Should he miss out, it would mark the first time Gyan has missed a qualifier since becoming captain in 2013.
🔢 Group Standings (after 4 games):
Ghana – 8 pts
Togo – 6 pts
Uganda – 4 pts
Guinea – 4 pts
📅 With qualification still open, the Black Stars will hope their talisman can return just in time to lead them across the finish line.
