Ghana: André Onana keeps his promise to a prisoner
As reported last week, Andre Onana was touched by the story of a Ghanaian prisoner during a TV3 documentary on life behind bars. The prisoner, Arhin Aboagye, demonstrated his goalkeeping skills on camera and expressed admiration for Onana, calling him a role model and citing inspiration from his movements on the pitch.
Moved by the feature, Onana promised to send the young goalkeeper some gifts as a gesture of encouragement. “Keep your head up, Arhin. I’ll send you my signed jersey and a pair of gloves. I hope to see you saving more penalties in them soon,” he said, offering both support and motivation.
On Wednesday, journalist Juliet Bawuah, who produced the report, confirmed that Onana’s package had been received and was addressed to Arhin Aboagye. The exchange highlighted the impact of football beyond the pitch, demonstrating how professional athletes can inspire and uplift aspiring talents in even the most challenging circumstances.
