Ghana and Tanzania face off in international friendly after September AFCON qualifiers

Ghana are set to face Tanzania in an international friendly during the September international window, giving Carlos Queiroz another opportunity to assess his squad after the opening matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Tanzania have confirmed the friendly as part of their plans for the extended international break, which will also see both nations begin their respective AFCON qualifying campaigns.

The Black Stars are scheduled to open their qualification campaign against Côte d’Ivoire before hosting Gambia in their second Group F fixture.

Queiroz’s side are then expected to meet Tanzania several days later as the Portuguese coach continues preparations for the next phase of his tenure.

The Taifa Stars will enter the friendly with their own qualifying commitments to manage, having been drawn alongside Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar. As co-hosts of the 2027 AFCON, Tanzania will also use the international window to build towards the tournament on home soil.

The East African nation have already named their squad for the upcoming fixtures, with BK Häcken midfielder Sabri Kondo returning to the fold and Bernard Kamungo receiving a call-up.

For Ghana, the encounter will provide Queiroz with valuable minutes to work with his players following the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

The Ghana Football Association recently confirmed that Queiroz will remain in charge after guiding the team at the World Cup.

The former Portugal coach is expected to announce his squad for the September fixtures in the coming weeks as Ghana begin preparations for another AFCON campaign.
