South African giants Orlando Pirates have set sights on securing the services of Ghana and Asante Kotoko Kwame Opoku as the summer transfer window approaches, Africasoccer.com can report.
The Soweto-based club are seeking to strengthen their squad, particularly their attack for the new campaign as they seeks to make a meaningful impact in the upcoming season.
Orlando Pirates have not been clinical upfront this season, leading to the teams’ elimination from the CAF Champions League season. The club’s failure to reach the final has intensified concerns over the effectiveness of the attack.
In an attempt to resolve their goalscoring woes, Pirates have set sights on signing a top striker in the summer window. The club’s utmost priority is to sign a national team player and are considering options abroad.
According to reports, the South Africa giants are prioritizing the acquisition of the Ghanaian striker, who has been impressive for Kotoko this season.
The former Black Stars attacker rejoined the Porcupine Warriors in December 2024 and made an immediate impact, scoring six goals and providing an assists from 13 appearances in the Ghana Premier League.
Kwame Poku left Kotoko in the middle of the 2020/21 campaign to join Algerian club USM Alger. Following an unsuccessful spell in the North African country, the enterprising attacker returned to relaunch his career, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club.
However, after just four months with the Ghanaian giants, the forward has attracted huge interests from South Africa.
Meanwhile, Opoku’s representatives are seeking for an opportunity for the forward to play for one of the top three clubs in South Africa.
The forward can, however, join the right club and offer his full potential in the top-flight.
