The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will host a four-day safety and security workshop for Premier League clubs and security stakeholders from 16 to 19 September 2025 in Accra.
The initiative forms part of CAF’s Safe Stadium project, designed to strengthen security standards across African football.
The programme will focus on the essential measures required to guarantee safety before, during and after matches, reflecting CAF’s wider push to ensure football venues meet the highest international standards.
Attendees will include Safety and Security Officers from all 18 Ghana Premier League clubs, members of the GFA Security Committee and 16 Regional Sports Police Officers.
Together, they will receive training on CAF’s Safety and Security Regulations, crowd management strategies, accreditation processes and access control procedures.
The workshop will be conducted by experienced CAF instructors, with Xololi Nokithula Vilakati of Eswatini and Nigerian expert Sylvanus Obi leading the sessions.
In addition, Dr Christian Emeruwa, Head of CAF’s Safety and Security Division, will be present to oversee the programme and reinforce the governing body’s commitment to safer football environments.
CAF has highlighted that with the sport’s rising popularity across the continent, it is vital to put robust safety structures in place to protect fans, players and officials.
The governing body believes improved training and awareness at club and national level are key to achieving this objective.
The opening ceremony in Accra will be presided over by GFA President Kurt Okraku, with members of the GFA Executive Council and the Security Committee expected to attend.
Their presence underlines the Association’s determination to align with CAF’s standards and enhance stadium security nationwide.
In recent years, concerns around crowd management, pitch invasions and stadium access have placed a renewed spotlight on safety protocols in African football.
The upcoming workshop represents an opportunity for Ghanaian football authorities to strengthen preparedness and improve coordination between clubs and law enforcement agencies.
By bringing together club officers, security officials and CAF experts under one roof, the initiative aims to build a consistent framework that can be implemented across all match venues.
It is also expected to equip participants with practical tools to anticipate and manage potential security challenges, ensuring the game is enjoyed in a safe atmosphere.
The Accra workshop is one of several programmes rolled out under CAF’s Safe Stadium initiative, reaffirming the organisation’s pledge to make football not only entertaining but also secure for all stakeholders.
