Getafe sign Ivorian defender Jean Ives Valou on season-long loan from Villarreal
Getafe have officially completed the signing of promising Ivorian defender Jean Ives Valou from Villarreal on a season-long loan ahead of the 2026/27 La Liga campaign.
The Madrid-based club confirmed the arrival of the young centre-back, who will spend the entire season at the Coliseum as he continues his development in Spain’s top flight.
Valou joins Getafe on a temporary deal that does not include an option to make the move permanent, meaning he is expected to return to Villarreal at the conclusion of the 2026/27 season.
The loan move represents another important step in the career of the talented Ivorian, who is eager to gain valuable first-team experience at the highest level of Spanish football.
Having progressed through Villarreal’s ranks, Valou has earned a reputation as one of the club’s promising young defenders. His move to Getafe is expected to provide him with greater opportunities for regular competitive action while allowing him to continue his football education in one of Europe’s most demanding leagues.
For Getafe, the addition of the Ivorian centre-back strengthens their defensive options ahead of the new season. The club believes Valou possesses the physical attributes, composure on the ball and defensive awareness needed to compete in La Liga.
The 2026/27 campaign will offer the young defender an opportunity to test himself against some of the world’s best attackers while adapting to the intensity and tactical demands of Spain’s elite division.
Although the agreement does not include a purchase clause, both clubs are expected to benefit from the arrangement. Getafe gain a talented young defender capable of reinforcing their back line, while Villarreal will closely monitor Valou’s progress with the hope that regular top-flight football accelerates his development.
Valou will now link up with his new teammates for pre-season preparations as Getafe gear up for another challenging La Liga campaign. The Ivorian will be aiming to impress the coaching staff, establish himself in the starting lineup and return to Villarreal as a more experienced and accomplished defender after a full season of top-flight football.
