Getafe have reached a verbal agreement with former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal over a move, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Carvajal, 34, is currently a free agent after his contract with Real Madrid ended at the conclusion of last season. He has not joined another club since leaving the Spanish side.
Romano reports that Carvajal has completed a medical and that Getafe are ready to announce the signing. The deal is now waiting for approval from La Liga regarding the club’s financial fair play limits.
Getafe’s interest in the experienced defender was reported by ABC several hours earlier, with negotiations understood to have begun over a possible move.
Head coach Jose Bordalas is said to be very pleased by the prospect of Carvajal joining his squad. The defender is eligible to sign for a club immediately and does not need to wait for the next winter transfer window in January.
Carvajal spent the majority of his senior career with Real Madrid and became a free agent after his deal expired last summer. Despite his departure, he had not yet found a new club.
Earlier, Team Talk reported that Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa was considering bringing Carvajal to the club, with the intention of benefiting from his extensive experience in professional football.
