Gerrard fears Mohamed Salah may have played his last Liverpool
Steven Gerrard has admitted concerns are growing that Mohamed Salah could have already made his final appearance for Liverpool this season following his latest injury setback.
The Egyptian forward was forced off after sustaining a hamstring problem during Liverpool’s victory over Crystal Palace, casting doubt over his availability for the remainder of the campaign.
With Salah expected to depart Anfield at the end of the season, the timing of the injury has intensified fears that his Liverpool career may conclude in unfortunate circumstances.
Gerrard, a long-time figurehead at the club, acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the situation and stressed the importance of a full medical assessment before drawing firm conclusions. “It would be sad, but let’s hope that’s not the case,” he said, reflecting the sentiment shared by many within the Liverpool fanbase.
The former captain also pointed to the unpredictable nature of muscle injuries, particularly in the immediate aftermath.
“It’s worse than Mo probably thinks it is now, but until you can get it properly assessed by the medical team, and you have an MRI scan, you don’t really know the extent,” Gerrard added.
Salah has been central to Liverpool’s attacking identity in recent years, consistently delivering goals and decisive performances across competitions. His influence has helped sustain the club’s competitiveness at the highest level, further cementing his status as one of the most important players of the modern era at Anfield.
Given his expected exit in the summer, there is a growing sense that supporters may be denied the opportunity to bid farewell to one of the club’s defining figures in recent history. Gerrard echoed that concern, underlining the emotional weight of a potential premature ending.
“But if it is the case that he’s played his last game, that would be extremely sad – not just for Mo but for everyone connected with Liverpool Football Club, because he’s been a legend and everyone wants to see him get the send-off he deserves.”
