Kevin Prince Boateng recently caused a stir after a photo surfaced showing him smoking a cigarette and holding a beer during a doping control after a Bundesliga match. The photo was taken in the locker room by the doctor’s assistant responsible for the control after Schalke 04’s victory over Leverkusen on February 15. It was published by the German daily Bild after being provided by one of its readers.
As a result of the incident, the doctor in charge of the doping test admitted the error of his assistant and requested to be relieved of his duties by the president of the anti-doping commission of the German Football Association (DFB). Schalke’s sporting director, Horst Held, expressed his dissatisfaction and threatened legal action, emphasizing that the responsibility for the incident lies with the DFB since the doping control was under its supervision.
