Germany are favourite to win 2026 World Cup – Former Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan
Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has predicted a blockbuster final between Argentina and Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, backing the Europeans to lift the trophy.
In an interview with OneFootball, Gyan expressed confidence in Germany’s pedigree on the global stage, tipping the four-time champions to come out on top in what he expects to be a high-profile showdown.
“Argentina and Germany are my picks for the World Cup final, and Germany to win,” Gyan said.
Despite favouring two of football’s traditional powerhouses, the former striker believes there is room for a surprise package — and he is placing that tag firmly on Ghana national football team.
Gyan, Africa’s all-time leading World Cup scorer, is optimistic that the Black Stars can exceed expectations when the tournament kicks off across North America.
He also made a bold call in the race for the Golden Boot, tipping Kylian Mbappé to finish as the competition’s top scorer, as the forward looks set to lead the charge once again for France national football team.
“Ghana will be the dark horse of the tournament, and Kylian Mbappé will be the top scorer,” he added.
The 2026 World Cup, to be staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the largest edition in the competition’s history.
Gyan’s early predictions offer a compelling narrative — blending belief in football’s established giants with confidence in Ghana’s ability to upset the odds.
