German trainer Winfred Schaffer is saddened by the Black Stars inability to secure qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Morocco later this year.
The West African powerhouse finished bottom in Group F after drawing three and losing three games in six matches under Otto Addo. Ghana is missing the continental showpiece for the first time in over 20-years
“I am a good follower of African football due to my previous experience with Cameroon and my winning of the African Cup of Nations title, and I am sad about Ghana’s absence, and this is all I can say now” he said in interview.
In an attempt to revitalize the national side, the Ghana FA implemented major changes to the Black Stars’ technical team, with Schaffer, an AFCON winner with Cameroon in 2002 securing the technical advisor job.
Desmond Offei, the current head coach of Ghana’s U20 team, joins the Black Stars’ technical bench as an assistant coach, replacing Joseph Lauman.
He will work alongside assistants John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda, who have retained their roles under head coach Otto Addo.
The Black Stars next competitive matches will be against Chad and Madagascar in March in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Currently, Ghana sits second in Group I but tied on 9 points with Comoros after four matches.
