German-Ghanaian striker Gibson Adu faces heartbreak as loan to Altach collapses
Seventeen-year-old Bayern Munich talent Gibson Adu has suffered a painful setback after his expected loan move to Austrian Bundesliga side SCR Altach was cancelled due to UEFA rules.
The young attacker had been preparing for the chance to gain first-team minutes but instead finds himself back in Munich earlier than planned.
“Gibson said goodbye to us with tears in his eyes. Even though he was only with us for ten days, it’s already bitter for such a young player,” said Altach coach Fabio Ingolitsch in an interview with the Vorarlberger Nachrichten (quoted here and further by fussballtransfers.com).
The collapse of the move was caused by age restrictions. Because Adu is under 18, Altach were not granted the permit required to register him.
Altach’s assistant managing director Manuel Willam explained: “Together with Bayern Munich we tried, but since we are a Category 4 club at international level, we cannot sign players under 18 years old. A pity, but we’ll try again next year.”
