GERMAN CUP FINAL: WOLFSBURG OVERPOWER DORTMUND TO LIFT THE TROPHY
Despite an early goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Borussia Dortmund fell 1-3 to Wolfsburg in the German Cup final on Saturday in Berlin.
Aubameyang opened the scoring in the 5th minute, giving Dortmund a promising start. However, Wolfsburg responded emphatically in the first half, turning the match around with goals from Luiz Gustavo (22’), Kevin De Bruyne (33’), and Bas Dost (38’).
The loss marks a bittersweet farewell for Jürgen Klopp, who departs Dortmund after a difficult final season, with the club finishing 7th in the Bundesliga and exiting the Champions League in the Round of 16.
Wolfsburg, meanwhile, capped off a remarkable season—second in the Bundesliga and quarter-finalists in the Europa League—by lifting the German Cup for the first time in their history.
