The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) have announced the appointment of Michael Nees as the head coach of the Zimbabwe men’s national team with immediate effect.
The 57-year-old German brings a wealth of experience to the Warriors, having coached various national teams and clubs across different continents.
Nees’s primary objective will be to guide Zimbabwe to success in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifications.
With a reputation for innovative coaching and a deep understanding of the game, he is seen as the perfect fit to elevate the Warriors’ performance on the international stage.
Lincoln Mutasa, Chairman of the ZIFA Normalisation Committee, expressed optimism about Nees’s appointment, stating;
“We are confident that Michael Nees’s arrival marks the beginning of a new era for Zimbabwean football. His extensive experience and forward-thinking approach will be invaluable as we aim to achieve greater success.”
Nees’ previous spell in Africa saw him work as an advisor in South Africa and as a manager in Rwanda and Seychelles.
He has also held technical director positions in Kosovo and Israel along with the managerial role of the U21 teams of the respective countries.
