Geovany Quenda ready for Arsenal clash after injury comeback
Sporting’s highly rated winger Geovany Quenda is set to face Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final second leg after shaking off a recent foot injury.
The 18-year-old missed the 1-0 first-leg defeat while completing the final part of his rehabilitation, but made his return from the bench in a win over Estrela Amadora, easing fears over his fitness at a crucial point in the season.
His comeback signals the start of a demanding final stretch, with at least eight more games expected before he seals his summer move to Chelsea. Quenda has already spent significant time in London at Chelsea’s training base, where he followed an individual programme, met future teammates and coach Liam Rosenior, and began adapting to the pace and physicality expected in the Premier League.
Off the pitch, the youngster has been working on his English and finalising living arrangements, aiming to make his transition as smooth as possible. Those close to him say he is ready to play wherever needed once he arrives at Chelsea, focused on earning a place in Rosenior’s squad, pushing for international recognition, and challenging for major trophies in England.
