Gent joins race to sign Ivorian defender Christ Tapé

Gent have entered the race to sign Ivorian centre-back Christ Tapé, who has quickly emerged as one of AC Horsens’ standout players since joining the Danish club from CO Korhogo last season.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a meteoric rise in Denmark, with his commanding defensive displays drawing attention from across Europe. Several clubs, including Lens, Saint-Étienne, Torino, Udinese and even Spanish giants Barcelona, have been monitoring his development during this transfer window.

Now, Belgian Pro League side Gent are also weighing up a move as the summer market approaches its closing stages.

Reports from Foot Mercato indicate that Gent have intensified their scouting efforts and are considering a formal approach for Tapé. The highly rated teenager has become one of the most sought-after young defenders in Europe, and Horsens are aware of the growing interest surrounding their prized asset.

Although the Danish club would prefer to keep Tapé beyond this summer, they are unlikely to reject a substantial offer. Sources close to the negotiations suggest Horsens would consider bids in the region of €1 million or higher, a significant return on the investment they made to bring him in from the Ivorian league.

Tapé, born in Séguéla, Ivory Coast, has quickly adapted to European football, earning plaudits for his maturity, composure and leadership qualities at such a young age.

His performances have been pivotal to Horsens’ campaign, and his rapid progress has not gone unnoticed by scouts from top-tier leagues.

The young defender is currently contracted to Horsens until June 2028, giving the Danish side strong leverage in any potential negotiations. However, with competition for his signature intensifying, clubs are expected to step up their efforts to secure a deal before the transfer window closes.

For Tapé, a move this summer could represent a significant step forward in his career. Joining a club like Gent, who regularly compete in European competitions, would provide the opportunity to further develop his skills at a higher level while gaining exposure on a bigger stage.

Gent, known for nurturing young talent and selling players on to major European clubs, could be an ideal platform for the Ivorian to take the next step in his journey.

Despite the mounting speculation, Horsens have yet to make any public comment regarding Tapé’s future. However, the club’s willingness to consider attractive offers suggests that they may be open to cashing in if the right bid arrives.

With less than a week remaining before the window shuts, Tapé’s name is expected to feature prominently in the headlines as clubs weigh up their final moves.

If a transfer materialises, it would cap a remarkable rise for a player who has gone from Ivory Coast’s domestic league to becoming one of the most promising defensive prospects in Europe in less than a year.
