Genoa sign Hamed Traore on loan from Marseille with purchase option

Genoa have bolstered their midfield with the arrival of Ivory Coast international Hamed Traore on a season-long loan from Marseille, ahead of the 2026/27 Serie A campaign.

The deal includes an option for Genoa to make the move permanent next summer if he impresses and both parties are satisfied with the partnership.

Traore only joined Marseille from Bournemouth last year in a transfer worth around €7.7 million, arriving in France with a strong reputation after his earlier performances in Italy and England. His first season at the Velodrome, however, never really caught fire. Injuries and fierce competition for places restricted him to just 19 appearances in all competitions, though he still managed to contribute three goals and two assists when fit.

A return to Serie A now offers the 26-year-old a fresh start in a league where he previously shone. Genoa see him as a creative and dynamic addition who can add craft between the lines and improve their attacking flow. Traore will link up with his new teammates immediately and prepare for Genoa’s pre-season friendlies, using the summer to build rhythm and understanding before the new campaign kicks off.
