GENOA: ISSA CISSOKHO FINALLY CLEARED TO PLAY AFTER TRANSFER DISPUTE WITH NANTES
Senegalese defender Issa Cissokho can now officially make his debut for Genoa. The former FC Nantes right-back had joined the Italian side during the transfer window, but a payment delay had initially blocked his registration.
According to L’Équipe, the issue has now been resolved. Genoa has paid the remaining €375,000 of the €500,000 transfer fee owed to Nantes. The Canaries, in turn, have sent the necessary release documentation, allowing Cissokho to be cleared to play.
“It was a matter of principle. But Issa Cissokho will be able to play,” Nantes president Waldemar Kita confirmed to L’Équipe.
Cissokho is expected to be in the squad for Genoa’s Serie A season opener against Palermo on Sunday. He may feature alongside Serge Gakpé, another former Nantes player who also recently joined the Italian club.
