Gedson Fernandes: Galatasaray linked with move for Spartak Moscow midfielder

Portugal and Sao Tome and Principe midfielder Gedson Fernandes is being linked with a summer move from Spartak Moscow to Turkish giants Galatasaray.

The 27-year-old central midfielder, currently valued at €16.00m, is the subject of growing speculation in Istanbul, with reports on 9 June suggesting the probability of a transfer stands at around 49%. The deal is understood to be at an exploratory stage, with no agreement in place and his contractual situation at Spartak not publicly disclosed, raising the possibility he could yet move as a free agent if his deal has expired or runs down.

Fernandes, who wears number 83 for Spartak, has been a regular in the Russian Premier Liga this season. In his most recent outing for the Moscow club – a 2-1 league defeat against local rivals CSKA Moscow on 1 June 2026 – he completed the full 90 minutes in central midfield, contributing to Spartak’s build-up play but unable to prevent the loss in a tight derby.

Born in São Tomé on 9 January 1999 and standing at 1.83m, the right‑footed midfielder holds dual nationality with Portugal and Sao Tome and Principe. A central midfielder by trade, he has built a reputation for his energy and ball-carrying from deep, traits that would appeal to a Galatasaray side preparing for another Süper Lig and European campaign.

Transfermarkt lists his market value at €16.00m, but with no confirmed contract expiry date at Spartak Moscow, there is uncertainty over whether Galatasaray would need to negotiate a fee or could position themselves to pounce if he were to become a free agent.

If the move materialises, a switch to Istanbul could offer Fernandes a fresh platform in a high-profile league and reshape the next phase of his career at 27, potentially enhancing both his reputation and future market value.
