Gedion Zelalem, the talented young striker, has been urged by Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Adnanom Tedros, to consider playing for the Ethiopian national team, the Antelopes Walyas. Zelalem, who is only 16 years old, is currently part of Arsenal’s training center and has been featured in Arsène Wenger’s professional squad. Born to an Ethiopian father, Zelalem has the option to play for Ethiopia, Germany (due to residency), or the United States. The Foreign Minister’s message came after Zelalem expressed pride in Ethiopia’s national team following their match against Nigeria in the 2014 World Cup play-offs.
