Gaston Sirino: Uruguay-South Africa winger joins Durban City FC on free transfer

Uruguay-born South Africa winger Gaston Sirino has joined Durban City FC on a free transfer from Kaizer Chiefs in a move that brings one of the Betway Premiership’s most decorated wide players to the coastal club.

The 35-year-old left winger, who is right-footed, signs for Durban City after two seasons at Chiefs, where he arrived in 2024 following his long spell with Mamelodi Sundowns. The deal sees him move within the Betway Premiership, with no transfer fee involved after the expiry of his contract at Naturena.

Sirino brings extensive top-flight and continental experience to his new side. Across his time in South Africa’s premier division he has made more than 150 league appearances, contributing 18 goals and 30 assists, and has also been a regular performer in CAF competitions, scoring 10 times in 48 CAF Champions League outings.

The Montevideo-born attacker became a dominant figure in domestic football during his seven-title run with Mamelodi Sundowns, helping them secure the South African league crown in every season from 2017-18 through to 2023-24. He also lifted the South African cup, MTN8 and Nedbank Cup with the Pretoria club, before adding another Nedbank Cup success with Kaizer Chiefs in 2024-25.

Standing at 1.66m, Sirino offers Durban City a low-centre-of-gravity winger with a proven record in knockout competitions, highlighted by eight goals in 10 Carling Knockout matches and further strikes in domestic cups across his career.

Durban City FC’s capture of Sirino on a free transfer from Kaizer Chiefs is confirmed for the 2026-27 season.
