Atalanta’s training facility became the backdrop for a crucial meeting between head coach Gian Piero Gasperini and forward Ademola Lookman, aimed at resolving a recent dispute, as reported by TMW.
Club president Antonio Percassi intervened as a mediator to ensure team cohesion during this tense situation.
The conflict arose after Gasperini made critical remarks about Lookman’s penalty-taking abilities following the Champions League match against Brugge.
He described Lookman as “one of the worst penalty takers”.
The comment sparked dissatisfaction among certain club owners who view the forward as an essential player and ambassador for Atalanta, particularly after his success in the Europa League final and winning the African Ballon d’Or.
Percassi’s mediation proved effective, fostering a temporary resolution between Gasperini and Lookman.
While the longevity of this truce remains uncertain, both parties have indicated a commitment to collaboration for the remainder of the season.
Looking ahead, attention is now focused on Gasperini’s tactical decisions regarding Lookman’s role in upcoming match against Empoli on Sunday.
Ahead of the game, Gasperini said, “Lookman felt offended, but I didn’t want to offend anyone. He entered with fantastic approach against Club Brugge.
“If he starts training to improve on penalties… with his exceptional skills Ademola can become our first penalty taker.”
