In an interview with Sexta, Jonathan Barnett, Bale’s agent, disclosed that another club, not identified, was ready to offer even more than Real Madrid for the striker’s services.
“Bale’s transfer almost fell through. Tottenham made a very good offer for Bale to stay. The meetings were not always serene and peaceful; some were harsh and confrontational,” Barnett revealed. He explained that the Spanish press struggled to understand why the transfer was delayed, emphasizing that if Tottenham urgently needed the money, they would have agreed on the first day of the transfer window.
Furthermore, Barnett disclosed, “there was another club that offered more money than Real Madrid. A lot more money.” However, he did not disclose the identity of this club.
Gareth Bale eventually made the move to Real Madrid during the last transfer window, with the exact amount of the transaction estimated between 91 and 100 million euros, although the precise figure remains undisclosed by the clubs involved.
