Gape Mohutsiwa: Botswana midfielder joins Ittihad Tanger on free transfer

Botswana defensive midfielder Gape Edwin Mohutsiwa has joined Moroccan side Ittihad Tanger on a free transfer from MC Oran. The 29-year-old has signed a deal running until June 2028 with the Botola Pro Inwi club.

Mohutsiwa switches to Morocco after four seasons in Algerian football, where he most recently played for MC Oran, having arrived there from ASO Chlef in 2025. His move continues a steady rise through regional leagues for the Serowe-born midfielder, who is known for operating in the holding role in front of the back four.

During his time in Algeria, the right-footed midfielder built up significant top-flight experience, making 77 league appearances and featuring regularly in continental competition. He also played in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, accumulating nearly 1,500 minutes across African club tournaments.

Mohutsiwa’s standout achievement to date came in the 2022-23 season, when he lifted the Algerian Cup with ASO Chlef. That success helped establish him as a reliable presence in midfield and paved the way for his subsequent move to MC Oran.

Standing at 1.80m, Mohutsiwa began his senior career in Botswana with Motlakase before spells at Township Rollers and Jwaneng, earning his first move outside his home country in 2022. His arrival at Ittihad Tanger adds further experience to the Moroccan club’s midfield options as they prepare for the new campaign.

The transfer, completed on 20 July 2026, sees Mohutsiwa commit to Ittihad Tanger until the end of the 2027-28 season following his free transfer departure from MC Oran.
