Yankuba Minteh’s stint in the Netherlands might be shorter than anticipated. The young winger, making waves at Feyenoord since his loan from Newcastle United at the season’s start, faces the possibility of an early return to the Magpies during January’s transfer window.
Sent to Feyenoord to hone his skills in the Eredivisie, the 19-year-old Gambian has thrived in the club environment, showcasing his talent in a league that offers a slightly lesser pressure compared to the Premier League.
Minteh, initially acquired by Newcastle from Danish club Odense, arrived as the Magpies’ first summer signing.
While striving to secure a place in Newcastle’s lineup, Minteh is excelling at Feyenoord. With three goals and two assists across 16 appearances in various competitions, he has left a mark at De Kuip Stadium. Notably, his solid performances against formidable opponents like Celtic and Atletico Madrid in Champions League fixtures have caught attention. “Everything is going well at Feyenoord.
It’s a great team, and I’m surrounded by supportive individuals. The level of football here is very good, and I’m committed to working hard in training and matches,” expressed the promising talent.
Amidst Newcastle’s injury woes, there’s speculation regarding Minteh’s possible recall to St. James’ Park. However, it remains uncertain whether Feyenoord would consent to Minteh’s departure, particularly considering the player’s affinity for the Dutch club.
“The coaching staff and players here have been incredibly helpful. If I’m unsure about something, they’re always there to guide and explain. I feel like I’m progressing significantly both on and off the pitch,” shared Minteh, acknowledging his growth.
Despite Minteh’s successful tenure at Feyenoord, the possibility of an early exit during the January window remains under consideration. Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe has confirmed exploring potential solutions for Minteh’s situation.
