Fast-rising Gambian forward Yankuba Minteh was on target for Brighton & Hove on Sunday afternoon, leading the team to secure a 2-1 comeback win against Newcastle United in the English FA Cup.
The talented attacker started the Round 16 game for Brighton and played an important role in propelling the side to reach the quarterfinal.
Newcastle took an early lead in the 21st minute when Alexander Isak fired a precise shot into the top left corner, leaving Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen with no chance.
However, just before the break, Minteh responded in style, latching onto a well-placed pass and striking a clinical finish inside the right post to restore parity.
With the game extending into extra time, Brighton found their match-winner in the 113th minute. Danny Welbeck, expertly set up by Solly March, unleashed a powerful shot into the roof of the net, sealing a hard-fought victory for the Seagulls.
The victory means Brighton & Hove Albion will feature in the quarter-finals of this season’s English FA Cup.
Minteh, who has been a revelation for the Premier League side, will be important in the next round of the competition.
